Tokyo’s Akihabara district is a haven for anime fans and otaku in mainstream Japanese society. This project uses the program of a backpacker’s hotel and café to connect visitors and local enthusiasts.

Suspended from the Yamanote line platform at the south end of Akihabara Station, the hostel hangs in the void between the tracks. Rooms are purchased with Suica card from vending machines at platform and street level, while an elevator allows public access to the café during business hours.

As access to daylight is limited, the building is designed to be vertically translucent.Asas
